Kinbridge Community Association (Kinbridge) was pleased to host its 4th Annual Basketball Tournament at Conestoga College this year, which brought together young people, families, and community partners for an exciting, collaborative, and connecting day. Every year, the competition expands not just as a sporting event but also as a significant opportunity to build relationships and provide young people in our community with positive experiences.

As the author of this blog, I, Emanuel Liyaw, can honestly say that Kinbridge tournaments were always something I looked forward to as a participant, and winning the tournament in 2023 at Conestoga College was an unforgettable moment for me. What meant even more, though, was the overall experience. Being part of Kinbridge as a teenager gave me a strong sense of belonging and confidence, and it provided a positive space where I could grow, stay active, and connect with others. The environment they created through these tournaments wasn’t just about basketball: it was about community, support, and opportunity, and that had a lasting impact on me both on and off the court.
This year’s tournament brought together approximately 85 youth participants, competing across both junior and senior divisions. The day was filled with energy and strong competition, with teams showing great teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the event. At the end of the tournament, the winning teams were rewarded with gift cards valued up to $50, with options including McDonald’s, Subway, and Tim Hortons, giving them a well-deserved way to celebrate their success. A dedicated team of approximately 15 staff and volunteers helped run the event smoothly, ensuring everything stayed organized and enjoyable for all participants.

This event would not have been possible without the incredible support of our funders.
